Growing Readers, Inspiring Learners

May 23, 2026

At Braeburn Mombasa International School, the library has continued to be a vibrant centre of learning, creativity and discovery for both our Primary and Secondary students.

The library remains a welcoming space where learners develop curiosity, strengthen literacy skills, and build a lifelong love of reading.

This term, students across the school have continued to make excellent use of the library for independent reading, research, collaborative learning and academic support. It is wonderful to see students enthusiastically exploring books, engaging in reading activities and confidently using library resources to support classroom learning.

In the Primary section, learners continue to enjoy guided reading sessions, storytelling activities and opportunities to explore a variety of age-appropriate fiction and non-fiction books. These activities have helped to strengthen vocabulary, comprehension, creativity and confidence in reading from an early age.

In the Secondary section, students are actively using the library for research, study and wider reading across different subject areas.

Many students have shown increased interest in exploring diverse genres including fantasy, biographies, science, history, and contemporary literature. The library has also continued to support students in developing independent learning and information literacy skills that are essential for academic success. Reading remains one of the most powerful tools for learning and personal growth. Regular reading improves communication skills, concentration, imagination, empathy and critical thinking abilities.

At BMIS, we encourage students to read not only for academic achievement but also for enjoyment and personal enrichment. We encourage parents to continue supporting reading at home by creating time for daily reading and discussing books with their children. Strong partnerships between home and school help nurture confident and enthusiastic readers.

As we continue through Term 3, the library is looking forward to supporting all learners on their reading and learning journey while promoting a culture of curiosity, creativity and a lifelong love of learning across the school.

We are BMIS, Building Brilliance and Inspiring Others.
